It is known as  Villa de Teguise, or for many locals also better known as "La Villa", and it has been the capital of the island in the past, and nowdays because of its historical legacy has been declared  historical architectural and artistic heritage and listed between " Los pueblos mas bonitos de España". Teguise is possibly the best preserved historic center of the Canaries, and that has not undergone major changes over the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
